ABU DHABI // The body in charge of FNC elections has increased its committee before next year’s vote.

The National Election Committee, formed in 2011, has held its third preparatory meeting with members such as Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health, present.

“Expanding the National Election Committee’s membership will enhance the role of the committee and enable it to learn more about the needs of the citizens in the next phase of the political participation process,” said Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for FNC Affairs and chairman of the committee.

“Empowering citizens to actively participate in parliamentary life is a priority for the UAE’s wise leadership. The next FNC election will reflect the unique development of the electoral process in the country.”

Before the most recent elections, NEC members travelled across the country to provide information and discuss procedures with candidates.

Part of the committee’s activities included holding talks for university students, highlighting the role of the FNC in UAE society.

Added to the NEC are Ahmed Al Zahry, director general of the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works, Ahmed Al Khatri, director of Ras Al Khaimah Courts, and Dr Fatima Al Shamsi, Paris Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi’s deputy vice chancellor of administrative affairs.
