The UAE has stepped up efforts to help thousands of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. Displaced families are living in squalid camps near the border town of Cox’s Bazar, after escaping violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. Now with the backing of the Sheikha Fatima Global Humanitarian Campaign, doctors from the UAE and Bangladesh are helping to treat women and children. Teams use mobile clinics and field hospitals to provide better diagnostic, treatment and preventive services that help ease some of the hardships faced by these vulnerable communities. Most Rohingya are Muslim and many in predominantly Buddhist Myanmar view them as illegal immigrants. Hundreds of thousands fled to Bangladesh after a crackdown by Myanmar troops. Myanmar’s army has denied any wrongdoing and rejected UN allegations of genocide.
