ABU DHABI // Traffic police are to distribute meals to motorists throughout Ramadan to improve road safety.

Food will also be distributed at 10 locations across Abu Dhabi by volunteers in co-operation with Al Ihsan Charitable Association.

Both projects are part of the Ramadan Aman campaign to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the roads, said Col Mohammad Dhahi Al Hmeiri, head of traffic and patrols directorate at Abu Dhabi Police.

Additionally, a road-safety campaign, Your Safety Brings Us Happiness, will also mean intensified patrols throughout the holy month.

Col Al Hmeiri urged motorists to abide by traffic rules and regulations, reduce speed and wear a seatbelt, and to refrain from using mobile phones while driving.

He also cautioned drivers on the danger and illegality of running red lights, and asked them to use their indicators before turning right or left.

Drivers were also asked to respect pedestrians and to give way at crossings, and warned against blocking traffic in residential areas, around markets and malls.
