Fire destroys eight boats in Abu Dhabi marina

ABU DHABI // A fire broke out at Abu Dhabi Marina Yacht Club early on Monday morning.

Eight boats were destroyed before firefighters managed to contain the blaze. No casualties were reported.

Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was on site to oversee the battle to prevent the flames from spreading to hundreds of other boats and jet skis.

Maj Gen Jassim Al Marzooqi, head of Civil Defence at Ministry of Interior, said nine Civil Defence teams, including a firefighting boat, dealt with the incident immediately to ensure minimal material losses.

The Air Wing was also on site and dispatched drones to feed live images to firefighters on the ground.

He asked yacht-owners to abide by public safety rules to avoid such incidents.

Investigations are under way to determine cause the fire.
