ABU DHABI // Final preparations are being made for the official launch of the Abu Dhabi Plan.

Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, National Security Adviser and Vice Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has examined the updated masterplan with its 25 objectives and 83 government programmes.

It aims to further the emirate’s development while ensuring security and a sustainable, open and globally competitive economy.

“From the start of our work on the Abu Dhabi Plan in March 2013, work teams at the General Secretariat of the Executive Council and government entities have been working on a daily basis to complete all preparation phases,” said Dr Ahmed Al Mazrouei, secretary general of the council.

Dr Al Mazrouei said the Government had worked on the updated plan for the past two years.

“What distinguishes the Abu Dhabi Plan is the active participation of government entities in reaching the plan’s current outputs,” he said.

“These outputs help to deal with the various challenges these entities face and improve the performance of the relevant sectors.”

Sheikh Hazza said departments had to bring their strategies into line with those of the Abu Dhabi Plan before its official launch – a task made easier by a planning guide issued by Dr Al Mazrouei.

The Government Entity Performance Management Guide explains how all departments should develop their strategic plans for the next five years.

The masterplan sets additional targets and programmes for social and economic development, security, justice, safety, infrastructure, environment and government affairs.

They were developed by 127 members of planning and performance management departments from 55 of the emirate’s government bodies.

All departments will now be expected to develop and update their strategic plans in line with the Abu Dhabi Plan.

Their strategies must include projects that further their development and help to achieve the objectives of the masterplan.
