Fazza Championship for Yola to kick off on Friday

DUBAI // Eighteen finalists will take part in the Fazza Championship for Yola on Friday, vying for a chance to win the Dh1 million grand prize.

Yola is a tradition involving spinning a rifle in the air to beats of Emirati music. The competition, in its 17th edition, will take place over the next 13 weeks at Al Meydan in Global Village, reported Wam, the state news agency.

Performances of music and Nabati poetry are scheduled every week, with including singer Hamad Al Ameri and poet Mohammed Al Marri taking part. The event is open to the public and organised by the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Centre to revive heritage activities.

Suad Darwish, director of championships at the centre, urged fans to enjoy watching the multinational finalists show off their skills.

“The Fazza Championship for Yola is a programme which is televised now for a 12th year and serves as an endorsement of the enduring popularity of this event,” he said.

“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that fans at Al Meydan at Global Village can follow every single detail and are installing huge digital screens displaying graphics and statistics to give a modern look to heritage sports.”
