Father drowns at Umm Al Quwain beach while playing with son

The 36-year-old was playing volleyball with his son in the water when the ball went further out to sea and he got into trouble when he tried to fetch it.

UMM AL QUWAIN // An Emirati father drowned on Wednesday at a beach near fishermen marina, police said.

The 36-year-old was playing volleyball with his son in the water when the ball went further out to sea. The father swam out to collect the ball but he got into trouble in strong currents, a police source said.

The son tried to help his father but failed so he asked for help from passers-by. A man helped him bring the father back to shore but he was unconscious when they got him back to the beach.

He was taken by National Ambulance to hospital but died before he arrived.
