DUBAI // Motorists have been urged to stay alert behind the wheel as high winds that have kicked up sand and reduced visibility this morning are expected to return on Wednesday.

Drivers commuting between Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Tuesday morning reported visibility was significantly reduced due to the weather conditions.

“We had winds of up to 40kph this morning along coastal areas, which in turn picked up a lot of sand and dust, reducing visibility,” said a forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology in Abu Dhabi.

“We are advising drivers to be careful when driving, especially in the morning because these winds can make visibility very difficult.”

The low visibility was caused by southerly winds that affected coastal areas in the early morning before easing off as the day wore on.

“The higher winds continued into the internal areas of the country but we are expecting similar wind speeds along the coastal areas on Wednesday morning as well,” the forecaster said.

“These will last for a similar time but then clear away.

“These are normal weather conditions for this time of year as the UAE continues to transition to cooler temperatures.”

The weather will remain partly cloudy for the rest of the week, with humidity increasing in the evenings.

The seas in the Arabian Gulf will be moderate to strong, with coastal daytime temperatures hitting a maximum of 29°C and 31°C internally.
