FUJAIRAH // An Emirati entrepreneur has launched a business directory website for the emirate.

Sindiya Saad, creator of www.fujtown.com, said she came up with the idea after noticing that many residents drove long distances to access services or make purchases.

“Some people don’t know how to reach a tailor, so I decided to work on the idea and created a platform that would combine all the information that covers customers’ needs and requirements,” said Ms Saad.

The website was launched this year with the support of Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah.

Ms Saad said she and three others worked on the website. They include a web developer, a sales and marketing executive and an Emirati volunteer.

The website also promotes Fujairah and serves as a tourist information centre that offers programmes and hotel discounts, as well as highlighting social events in the emirate.

“We reached 60,000 viewers in only two months, which was more than we expected and that encouraged more companies to join our directory,” said Navas Usman, a 25-year-old marketing executive from India.

Ms Saad: “Each day, we work on improving the site in order to make it user-friendly, and we are planning to launch an app very soon along with creating an Arabic version of the site.”

Residents of the emirate voiced their welcome for the website.

“We need the website, as you can’t find everything in the yellow pages. I live in Fujairah but I don’t know everything here,” said Shaikha Al Yamahi, 29.

“The directory will help me and everyone to find exactly what they need or are looking for in just a few clicks, and I will be more than happy to support them in any way possible.”
