A 23 year-old Emirati suffered severe injuries when he was crushed by his car.
The car fell on the man, identified as Khalifa Al Shehhi, while he was repairing it at his home in Khor Khwair in Ras Al Khaimah.
Dr Yusuf Al Tayr, head of Saqr Hospital in RAK, said the young man suffered contusions to the skull and lacerations in the lungs.
He said the patient was transported to Zayed Military Hospital, where he was admitted to intensive care.
RAK police’s emergency room received several reports of people being injured in traffic accidents over the National Day weekend.
Officers responded to reports of car's engine exploding in Shaam, wounding a fisherman who was treated for moderate injuries, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
Sharjah police reported 11 accidents during the holiday weekend, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The victim died after being run over.
Colonel Shawaf Abdulrahman, Director of traffic and patrol, said the accidents were due to motorists not abiding with traffic laws and regulations.
“The major cause of accidents were entering from a side road to a main road without making sure the road is clear and sticking to the correct lane.”
Sharjah Police increased its patrols during the long weekend to reduce traffic jams and help residents.
