ABU DHABI // The UAE has been chosen to head the International Advisory Committee for the Memory of the World programme for the next three years.
The programme is affiliated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, Unesco.
Dr Abdullah Al Rayes, director-general of the National Archives, will head the programme and oversee the project, which involves the registration of original documents related to global humanitarian issues. The project is also aimed at preserving the world’s documentary heritage.
The committee includes leading experts and heads of national archives from 16 countries, as well as a Unesco representative.
