The National Election Committee has donated 1,191 computers to the Ministry of Education to support remote learning at UAE's schools and universities.

The contribution is part of the committee's work to support education.

Schools and universities in the UAE closed in early March to contain the spread of the coronavirus, and commenced distance learning on March 22.

Online learning is set to continue at public and private schools as well as universities until the end of the academic year.

Pupils at UAE's schools and students at universities need computers or devices to access online lessons.

Abdulrahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention and chairman of the National Election Committee, said: “These challenges called for exceptional measures, where remote learning was implemented as one of a series of precautions taken to ensure the health and safety of students and the wider community.

“Donating the computers reflects the commitment of the National Elections Committee – and the entire team at the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs – to serving the country."

The Ministry of State for FNC Affairs helped to facilitate the contribution of the computers.
