An Emirati teacher died of a heart attack while giving a live online class to her pupils on Monday morning.

Aisha Al Aidarous, a 44-year-old computer teacher at Umm Kulthum Secondary School for girls in Al Ain, fainted during the lesson in front of her pupils at about 11am at her house in Al Yahar area.

Mozah Al Marboui, a co-ordinator at the school, told Al Roeya, an Arabic newspaper, that the pupils became worried after Ms Al Aidarous stopped talking.

“The pupils started calling her but she didn’t answer so they called other teachers to inform them that she was not responding. The teachers contacted one of her family members,” said Ms Al Marboui.

The teacher was rushed to the nearest hospital where she was declared dead after suffering a heart attack.

"My sister died at 11am while giving a computer lesson to her pupils," Abdulrahman Al Aidarous, the brother of the teacher, was quoted in Al Bayan newspaper.

“She is a mother of two, a 17-year-old high school boy and a 20-year-old daughter who is currently studying at university.

“My sister worked in the Ministry of Education for 20 years and was known for her dedication to completing her job assignments.

“She often tried to encourage her pupils to accept the experience of distance learning and encouraged them to overcome the challenges.”

The Ministry of Education offered its condolences to the family.

"With great sadness and sorrow, the Ministry of Education extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of Aisha Alwi Omar Al Aidarous, computer teacher at Umm Kulthum School in Al Ain,” tweeted the Ministry of Education.

Ms Al Aidarous is fondly remembered by her colleagues for her hard work.

Only a few of her family members attended the funeral, following the authorities' precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

She was buried on the same day in Al Yahar cemetery.
