DUBAI // A female tourist was arrested for dealing hashish after a man convicted of having the same drug tipped off police about her, Dubai Criminal Court has heard.
The Spanish woman then tipped off police about a jobless Emirati man, whom she said she gets the drug from, and he was arrested as well.
Prosecutors said that after Swedish man AR was arrested on July 12 for possessing and smoking hashish, he told Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department that he got his stash from Spaniard RS, 37.
The next day she was arrested as she walked into Al Barsha Mall after police obtained a prosecution’s arrest warrant.
“After we arrested AR, he told us he got his hashish from this woman, so we had him contact her and arrange for a meeting, then we arrested her,” said police officer AAR.
Records show that two pieces of hashish were found in her cigarette box and, when questioned, she allegedly confessed she was about to sell them to the Swede for Dh2,000.
The woman then told police about Emirati NA, 37, and he was arrested and referred to court alongside her.
RS was charged with possessing hashish to sell, which she denied, while NA was charged with consuming hashish.
Swede AR was convicted in October of consuming hashish and was sentenced to four years in jail, followed by deportation.
The next hearing will be on December 6.
