DUBAI // Two years to the day after becoming the Gulf's first mass transit rail system, the Dubai Metro has opened a new line.
The Green Line, which covers 22.5 kilometres and 20 stations, was inaugurated this afternoon by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the UAE, ahead of public service beginning tomorrow morning.
The line runs from Etisalat Station in Al Twar district near Emirates Road to Dubai Creek, via the Al Qusais, Hor Al Anz, Al Meena, Deira, Al Ras, Bur Dubai, Umm Hurair and Al Jadaf areas.
Public service kicks off tomorrow at 5.50am.
The new line takes the entire length of the driverless, remote-controlled train system to about 75 kilometres following the opening of Red Line on September 9, 2009.
