Trio ‘stole Ebel, Rolex, Longines and Michael Kors watches from Dubai villa’

Chinese men accused of stealing jewellery worth more than Dh500,000 from woman’s home while she was overseas.

Three Chinese men stole jewellery worth more than Dh500,000 from a Dubai villa, Dubai Criminal Court has heard.
Prosecutors said on Sunday that the men, aged 25, 29 and 39, broke into the villa in Umm Al Sheif on March 17 after making sure its owners were out of the country. 
They are said to have stolen a custom-made Ebel watch worth Dh150,000 as well as a Dh35,500 Rolex, a Longines watch worth Dh15,000 and a Dh5,000 Michael Kors watch.
The also allegedly stole diamond and gold necklaces worth Dh315,000 and Dh10,000 in cash.
The trio denied charges of burglary and breaking and entering, causing damage to the main entrance and window of the villa. The younger defendants are additionally charged with assaulting two police officers and resisting arrest, which they also denied.
Police and prosecutors said that the men had been involved in several similar burglaries.
A 60-year-old teacher from Jordan said that his daughter, who owns the villa, was out of the country when his brother, who was sporadically checking in to ensure the property was OK, told him about the burglary. 
"He called me and said that the maid informed him of the burglary," said the teacher, who called his daughter and told her to return to Dubai immediately. 
Police were informed and an arrest was made on April 1. 
"After showing two suspects our IDs, they assaulted me and my colleague and pushed us down then kicked us hard before they tried to escape, but we arrested them," said a 25-year-old police lieutenant. 
The third suspect was arrested on April 9.
They await a verdict on August 22.
