Officer cleared of attack on student

An officer is acquitted of assaulting a female student in public.

DUBAI // An Abu Dhabi police corporal has been cleared of assaulting a female student in her car in the forecourt of a petrol station.

AS, 23, had denied the charge before the Court of Misdemeanours in March.

The court was told that the officer had waved at EH, a 24-year-old Bahraini, and when she did not respond he jumped into the passenger seat beside her.

The woman claimed she ran away terrified and screaming for help.

AS said he had approached the car because he knew EH's friend, but she had insulted him, and told him: "You are an animal, you lack manners."
