DUBAI // An Emirati man accused of slitting his wrists before setting fire to a police cell claimed to be psychologically depressed, a court has heard. Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance heard that M M, 21, was charged with arson attempted suicide after he alledgedly set fire to the cell in Al Qusais Police Station in December 2008. A prosecution statement said M M told officers he felt he was unfairly held in solitary confinement and that he was depressed at the amount of time he had spent in custody. It was not stated how long he had been held up to the time of the incident. The case was adjourned until May 31. amustafa@thenational.ae
