DUBAI // A carpenter is accused of breaking a man’s legs with an iron bar in an unprovoked attack.
At Dubai Criminal Court, Indian RP, 29, was not present to enter a plea against a charge of physical assault on his 52-year-old countryman QH.
Prosecutors said that on January 26 the victim was in his room when the defendant arrived carrying a large iron bar.
“He was not in a normal state, I noticed, and then without notice he started hitting both my legs with the bar. I fell unconscious then woke up to find myself at the hospital,” said QH.
The victim said he had no explanation for the assault. He said that he remained in hospital for a while and underwent surgery where metal plates were placed in both his legs but he could not walk for a long period of time and was in a wheelchair.
Records said he was left with a 20 per cent permanent disability.
Prosecutors said RP had previously confessed to the assault but he did not explain why.
A verdict is due on October 28.
