DUBAI // A drunken transit passenger called police from his hotel room and told them a bomb was about to explode at Dubai International Airport.

Indian S S, 36, checked in to a hotel on December 31 and started drinking while waiting for his next flight, the court heard on Monday.

That night he called Dubai Police from the phone in his hotel room. He claimed to be a Pakistani and said a bomb would soon explode in the airport.

Police traced the call to the hotel and arrested him. He confessed that the call was a fake.

He was charged with filing a false report and drinking without a licence.

Court records did not say whether the airport was evacuated as a result of the false alarm.

He confessed to both charges in the Misdemeanours Court on Monday and was sentenced to a month in jail for the bomb threat, and fined Dh2,000 for the drinking charge.
