The holy month of Ramadan will start on August 11 this year, a UAE astronomer has calculated. The Ramadan moon will be visable on August 10, making the next day the first day of the month of fasting, said Ibrahim al Jarwan, astronomy researcher and supervisor of the Sharjah Planetarium. Eid al Fitr, the celebration marking the end of fasting on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, will fall on September 10. "The crescent moon of Shawwal will be born on Wednesday September 8, at 2.30 am local time and sink down 14 minutes before sunset," he said, according to the state news agency, WAM. "It's impossible to sight the crescent by naked eye on that day and therefore Friday, September 10 will be the first day of Shawwal."
