SHARJAH // A Sharjah-bound Air India flight with 168 passengers on board was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday after experiencing engine trouble.
Air India flight 997 took off from Calicut International Airport near the city of Kozhikode in Kerala just after 8pm, landing in Mumbai two and a half hours later, where the nearest airport was located.
“The engine developed a snag, it’s a technical issue,” said Kanna Nagasundaram, Air India’s station manager at Sharjah Airport.
Upon landing with one of the plane’s engines disabled, passengers were evacuated.
After a change of aircraft and crew, the plane took off from Mumbai at 2:16am, landing in Sharjah at 4am, local time.
“There were no untoward incidents,” said Mr Nagasundaram. “They reached here safely.”
