ABU DHABI // The President of Afghanistan has presented his country's National Medal to relatives of one of the Emiratis killed in the Kandahar terror attack in January.

President Ashraf Ghani presented the medal - one of the country’s highest civilian honours - to the family of Abdullah Mohammed Al Kaabi at their home in Al Ain during a visit, which was attended by Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun, Director of The Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office, according to state news agency Wam.

President Ghani offered Mr Al Kaabi’s relatives his condolences, while the martyr’s family thanked him and shared their appreciation for his kind feelings and words.

Five Emiratis were among 12 people killed when explosives placed under a sofa went off as the Kandahar governor was entertaining a UAE delegation at his guesthouse.
