ABU DHABI // Customs officers have seized more than 2.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, and hashish and tramadol, in two incidents at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The methamphetamine was recently found by an officer who searched a visibly anxious man travelling from an Asian country.

Bags of the white substance, weighing 2.24kg, were found in the frames of his bag.

In an earlier incident, an Arab passenger was found to be carrying 13.7 grams of hashish and 45 tramadol pills in his shoe.

It is illegal to bring tramadol into the UAE without a valid prescription.

The two travellers have been referred to Public Prosecution.

Saeed Al Muhairi, general director of Abu Dhabi Customs, praised the expertise of his inspectors.

Mr Al Muhairi commended the efforts of managers and officers in preventing drugs from being brought into the country.

Saeed Al Qahtani, customs director at Abu Dhabi International Airport, has also voiced his appreciation.
