ABU DHABI // A case involving 23 people from Arab nationalities accused of joining Al Qaeda in Yemen will be given its verdict next month by the State Security Division of the Federal Supreme Court.

The court was adjourned on Monday with the verdict due to be announced at the next session on May 20, according to Wam, the state news agency.

Other charges against the 23 accused include forging official documents with the intent of evading the regulations of entry and residence of foreigners in the UAE.

Defence arguments from lawyers who maintained their clients’ innocence were heard at the court during Monday’s session.

In previous hearings the public prosecutor demanded the accused be punished, while the defendants denied all charges.

The charges against the defendants include living in the country after joining a terrorist organisation and falsifying official documents related to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs to evade the provisions of the law.

The court on Monday also reviewed a number of other cases related to national security.
