ABU DHABI // Police have seized 100kg of hashish and one million Captagon pills from a gang of five Asians.

The men were trying to smuggle the drugs into the country on a ship that they caught up with as it anchored on Dubai Creek, near Dubai Festival City.

Lieutenant Colonel Tahir Al Dhaheri, head of the anti-narcotics department at Abu Dhabi Police, said the operation, dubbed Death Ship, discovered the haul hidden in secret compartments of the ship.

The team of anti-narcotic officers caught the alleged smugglers and seized the drugs, with the men being referred to prosecutors.

Lt Col Al Dhaheri attributed the success of the operation to the information police had and the rapid response of the team, which caught the men by surprise.
