100 tonnes of food supplies sent to Socotra

ABU DHABI // Tonnes of food supplies have been sent to Yemenis affected by the recent cyclones that hit Socotra island.

The Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan foundation sent 100 tonnes of food to Socotra, after the Yemeni island was hit by cyclones Chapala and Megh last month.

Emergency relief was sent in response to instructions of the President, Sheikh Khalifa, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, as well as the follow-up of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, an official at the foundation said.

It was reported last month that more than a dozen people in Socotra died in the cyclones.
