UAE middle distance runner Bethlem Desaleyn exited the 1500 metres at the semi-final stage on Sunday at the 2015 Athletics World Championships, finishing 10th in her heat with a 4 minutes 17.92 seconds showing.
The 23-year-old Emirati would have had to finish either in the top five of her heat or among the next two fastest outside either heat’s five best. Desaleyn was 1.32 seconds off fifth-placed Shannon Rowbury’s pace in the first heat. Dutch runner Sifan Hassan bested the heat, at 4:15.38.
She advanced on Saturday into the semi-final finishing fifth in her heat.
The UAE’s other representative at the world championships in Beijing, Alia Saeed, runs in the 10,000 metres final on Monday.
