Hosts England are looking to avoid the ignominy of becoming the first host nation to be elminiated prior to the knockout rounds, but Australia are eager for the opportunity to dash those dreams.

England, however, are betting that their desire will win the day:

“The fact of the matter is that Australia have potentially got a reason to quit. They can go to Wales and get a result. They can afford to lose a game, we can’t,” said veteran scrum-half Ben Youngs.

Either way, the early sniping suggests it will be an emotionally testing affair.
