Redknapp urges his team to get a result against Inter

The manager sets his Tottenham Hotspur side the challenge of at least a draw against the champions at White Hart Lane tonight.

LONDON // Harry Redknapp has set his Tottenham Hotspur side the challenge of at least a draw against Inter Milan at White Hart Lane tonight to make sure their first Champions League adventure can progress to the knockout phase.

"Some people seem to think we are almost there in terms of finishing in the top two [they are second in Group A with four points from three games], but I see both Werder Bremen and Twente [both on two points from three games], who we still have to play again, as dangerous which is why we need to get something out this game against Inter," Redknapp said.

"A draw would be a good result but we won't be sitting back. We have to go for it."

Two weeks ago Spurs lost 4-3 to the European Champions in the San Siro having recovered from a four-goal rout in the first half, in which Heurelho Gomes, the goalkeeper, was sent off.

"The way we responded that night gives us a sense of belief. Obviously we have to defend better, but we have proven we can break them down," Redknapp said.

"Yes it could be a real special European night at White Hart Lane and if you don't look forward to matches like this, then you really shouldn't be in the game.

"We have to create the right atmosphere, play at a high tempo, a Premier League pace, and get at them from the start.

"Make no mistake, Inter are a really special team. I watched them beat Chelsea last season [in the second round] and four of their players were voted the best in Europe - goalkeeper Julio Cesar, full-back Maicon, midfield player Wesley Sneijder and striker Samuel Eto'o.

"We came back well to finish 4-3 in the first leg but, to be honest, after leading 4-0 they probably took their foot off the pedal.

"Gareth Bale [the Spurs left-sided player] troubled Maicon in that second half, though. He has to do the same again and Aaron Lennon can do something similar against them on the other flank."

Spurs will be without suspended Gomes, while Rafael van der Vaart, the midfielder, is doubtful with a hamstring problem, which makes the presence of Bale all the more important.

"Rafael's struggling and that's a pity," said Redknapp. "He's a good player and a good professional. All in all, with the suspension and the injuries, I could well have five players missing who would have played against Inter. That's the way it is, so we'll get on with trying to qualify from our group, which won't be easy.

"There's no walkovers in it, for example Twente beat PSV Eindhoven this weekend [in Holland's Eredivisie] which proves how dangerous they can be."
