Patrick Mahomes signed the richest contract in US sports history on Monday when the quarterback agreed a 10-year, $450 million (Dh1.65 billion) contract extension through 2031 with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The value of his contract could rise to $503m over 10 years.

The first three years are fully guaranteed with $63m at signing and $103.5m by March 2021, according to reports.

The deal is the richest contract in the history of North American team sports and includes an injury guarantee of $140m.

Mahomes, 24, was the NFL Most Valuable Player in 2018 and guided the Chiefs to a Super Bowl championship last season.
