LONDON // Liverpool have reached an agreement for the transfer of defender Alvaro Arbeloa to Real Madrid, the Premier League club have confirmed. "We have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for the transfer of the player, subject to him completing a medical," a spokesman said on the Liverpool club website. The Spanish international right-back will return to Madrid after originally joining them as a 16-year-old from Real Zaragoza, although he failed to challenge for a first-team place during his initial stint at El Santiago Bernabeu.
