Kris Boyd has said he will not play for Scotland under the manager George Burley again. The Rangers striker was on the bench for all 90 minutes of Scotland's goalless draw against Norway on Saturday and then heard the manager tell a radio station that the forward needed to prove himself with his club He told the BBC: "I left a message on George Burley's phone last night and he hadn't got back to me. I will not be playing for George Burley again, but I hope to be back in a Scotland jersey again one day."
John Toshack is drawing hope from the past when Wales face the biggest test of their World Cup campaign. Germany stand in their way in Moenchengladbach on Wednesday and Toshack thinks his men can rise to the occasion. A testing 2-0 win over Liechtenstein has left the Welsh second in Group Four, but the impressive Germans are top after their victory against Russia. Toshack knows it will be tough, but has recalled how they gained a goalless draw in Frankfurt last year during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign and said: "We can use that performance in Frankfurt to our advantage. We had five under-21s in the side that night and pulled off a great result.
"If we could get a goalless draw again it will be a terrific result. The higher up the group table we are gives everyone a lift and real confidence. "The younger lads have done well. Maybe a few of the older ones can step up to the plate and do a bit more for us." @Email:akhan@thenational.ae
