The Omega Dubai Desert Classic went to a play-off on Sunday – the first time in 10 years since the tournament has extended beyond 72 holes.

South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Australia’s Lucas Herbert reached the clubhouse on 9-under par on a day at Emirates Golf Club where the wind swirled and the rain came, too.

They were made to wait for some time to head back down 18, with another seven groups still out on the course.

The pair, who both shot brilliant 68s in severely testing conditions, finished two shots ahead of the field, with Dean Burmester, Tom Lewis and Adri Arnaus their closest challengers.

Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau bogeyed the final four holes to drop out of contention. It proved incredibly costly, since the American eventually finished four shots off the lead.

Overnight leader Ashun Wu shot a final-round 77 to come home three shots shy.
