Wilson's injury-time penalty after VAR review secured Newcastle a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

TOTTENHAM RATINGS: Hugo Lloris - 5: Didn't have a shot to face until the 96th minute when Callum Wilson's penalty had just too much power on it to earn Newcastle a point. Reuters

Matt Doherty - 6: Attacked well but there's a nagging sense that the Irishman isn't doing enough to cement the right-back berth as his own ahead of Serge Aurier. Reuters

Davinson Sanchez - 7: The Colombian got his head on plenty as Newcastle resorted to putting plenty of balls in the mixer. AFP

Eric Dier - 7: Will be scratching his head wondering how he could have avoided the ball hitting his arm in the air with his back turned. A harsh decision that took away from another impressive display at the heart of the Spurs defence. AFP

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - 6: Put in some crunching tackles. While Spurs will argue the absurdity of the penalty decision, the Dane can feel aggrieved for a foul given against him in the buildup when Joelinton ran straight into him. AFP

Harry Winks - 6: Always wanted the ball but is just a spark short of full ignition at present. Reuters

Giovani Lo Celso - 7: The Argentine dictated the tempo as Spurs dominated from start to finish. Reuters

Lucas Moura - 7: A first goal in 22 league matches for the Brazilian who put in his now customary hard-working shift. Reuters

Son Heung-min - 7: Hit the crossbar and post before being replaced with an injury at half time. Reuters

Harry Kane - 8: Set up the goal for Moura and tested Darlow with some stinging efforts. AFP

SUBS: Steve Bergwijn (on for Son) - 5: Dutch forward had no impact on the match after being introduced at half time. AFP

Tanguy Ndombele (on for Lo Celso) - 5: Seemed flustered when he found himself in advanced positions. Reuters

Erik Lamela (on for Moura) - 5: Little time for the Argentine to make an impact. AFP

NEWCASTLE RATINGS: Karl Darlow - 9: A fine double save to deny Lo Celso and Kane in the opening stanza and an even better one to to deny the Spurs striker later. Newcastle owe this point to their goalkeeper every bit as much as they do to VAR and Wilson. Reuters

Javier Manquillo - 6: Spurs targeted the space in behind the Spanish wing-back's channel in the first 45 minutes with plenty of joy. Will be rueful they didn't make their dominance count. EPA

Isaac Hayden - 7: Asked to play in a back three rather than his usual holding midfield role. Like most of his teammates, looked all at sea in the first 45 minutes but was rock solid after the interval. Reuters

Jamaal Lascelles - 7: Took plenty of knocks for his troubles but stuck to his task manfully. AFP

Federico Fernandez - 5: The Newcastle centre-back just couldn't get to grips with Spurs' slick attacking interchanges in a nightmare first half. Settled down somewhat in the second. AFP

Matt Ritchie - 5: Inexplicably let Kane's low centre run across him for Moura to poach Spurs' goal despite busting a gut to get back and defend the Brazilian's run. Taken off injured on 69 minutes following an awkward landing. Reuters

Jeff Hendrick - 6: Tried to lead the press to put the pressure on Spurs but was too often a one-man gang as his mates deserted him. Reuters

Jonjo Shelvey - 6: Booked for a crunching tackle on Lo Celso and looked completely out of his depth until Carroll's introduction and he finally had a target to hit with his dead balls. Reuters

Miguel Almiron - 6: The only one of Newcastle's midfielders who looked to offer Wilson any sort of support. Ironically Newcastle were more of an attacking threat following his withdrawal late on. AFP

Joelinton - 6: Showed flashes of his ability on the ball when he twice evaded two would-be Spurs tacklers but the final product was dire both occasions. AFP

Callum Wilson - 6: Newcastle had zero shots on target in the mauling at home to Brighton and needed a helping hand from Stockley Park to finally earn one in the 96th minute at Tottenham. Credit to Wilson for slotting home, though. Reuters

SUBS: Jamal Lewis (on for Ritchie) - 7: Stood his ground well and Newcastle looked a more solid unit defensively with him at left-back. AFP

Jacob Murphy (on for Hendrick) - 5: Looked to get on the ball and make things tick. AFP

Andy Carroll (on for Almiron) - 8: Made quite the impact after coming on for the last 13 minutes. There was nothing subtle about Newcastle's tactics - they looked to hit the giant striker every time with balls in the air. It paid off handsomely for Steve Bruce. Reuters

Another controversial handball decision gave Newcastle United a stoppage-time penalty converted by Callum Wilson to earn a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Spurs had led through a 25th-minute Lucas Moura goal and Newcastle had not managed a shot on target but deep into stoppage time Newcastle substitute Andy Carroll and Eric Dier challenged for a ball and the forward's header brushed the arm of the Spurs defender.

A VAR review led referee Peter Bankes to look at the incident, in which Dier had his back to the ball as he jumped with Carroll, and point to the spot.

Wilson duly converted as a fuming Jose Mourinho could be seen storming down the tunnel before the full-time whistle and a member of Spurs' coaching staff was shown a red card for protesting.
