EVERTON PLAYER RATINGS: Jordan Pickford – 6. Great tipped save to deny Wilson in the first half and had no chance with either of the striker’s goals. AP

Seamus Coleman – 6. Disciplined in defence but the captain was unable to provide much of a threat going forward. AP

Yerry Mina – 6. For a player built like a heavyweight boxer, went down as if he had been clubbed by Anthony Joshua when brushed by Wilson. Solid game at centre-half but the Colombian loses a point for the theatrics. AFP

Michael Keane – 7. Had his hands full trying to contain Wilson and Newcastle’s lively counter-attacks and did his job well. PA

Lucas Digne – 6. Got forward plenty but his delivery was lacking. Blazed a speculative effort well over to sum up his display. PA

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 5. Not quite sure what the Iceland man brings to this Everton team when not deployed at No 10. An ineffective performance. Reuters

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7. A typically commanding display from the Frenchman, who marshalled the Everton midfield and was tidy in possession. PA

Alex Iwobi – 5. The Nigerian midfielder had no real impact on the game. Replaced by Gomes after 63 minutes. EPA

James Rodriguez – 6. Looked like he would run the show after the opening half hour, but his influence faded. While the Colombian playmaker was responsible for most of Everton’s best attacks, he couldn’t inspire his team to victory. EPA

Richarlison – 5. Everton’s most dangerous attacking player was largely anonymous when they needed him to deliver. Getty Images

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6. A forgettable game for the England striker, who has now gone seven league games without a goal. AFP

SUBS: Andre Gomes (63’) – 6. Offered his usual array of passing but couldn’t help his team to a result. Reuters

NEWCASTLE UNITED PLAYER RATINGS: Karl Darlow – 6. Looked a bit nervy to start with but was rarely called into action and commanded his area well. Surely appreciated a quieter game than usual. AP

Javier Manquillo – 7. Played his part in ensuring Richarlison rarely threatened and contributed to Newcastle’s clean sheet. Reuters

Isaac Hayden – 8. Another fine defensive performance from one of Newcastle’s stand-out players this season. Reuters

Jamaal Lascelles – 7. Newcastle captain was enjoying a good game and contained Calvert-Lewin before being forced off in the 54th-minute with injury. EPA

Fabian Schar – 7. Along with the rest of the Newcastle backline, produced a solid display to keep Everton’s dangermen quiet. PA

Jamal Lewis – 8. Kept the left-sided Everton attack quiet and provided the raking cross for Wilson’s second. Clean sheet and an assist testament to a good day’s work. PA

Ryan Fraser – 6. Still short of the form that made him so effective for Bournemouth. Replaced on 67 minutes. Reuters

Jonjo Shelvey – 7. Got stuck in, as usual, and his passing range made Everton uneasy at times. Delivered the corner for Wilson’s first goal. PA

Jeff Hendrick – 6. A no-nonsense performance from a no-nonsense player. Didn’t exactly stamp his authority on the game but his team came away with the win, so played his part. Getty Images

Miguel Almiron – 8. He may lack goals but the Paraguayan forward was integral to Newcastle’s win. He dropped deep, started counters, and got stuck in and drew fouls when needed. An encouraging performance. Getty Images

Callum Wilson – 9. After two good chances, finally got the goal his performance deserved with a superb glancing header then grabbed his second in injury time. Best player on the pitch by some distance. PA

SUBS: Ciaran Clark (54’) – 7. Came on for the injured Lascelles and emulated his captain’s committed performance. PA

Allan Saint-Maximin (67’) – 6. A long-awaited return to action for the French forward and his silky pirouette turn offered a glimpse of his flair. Reuters

Newcastle United eased some of the pressure on manager Steve Bruce on Saturday after earning an impressive 2-0 Premier League win at Everton.

England striker Callum Wilson scored both goals of the game, the first a stunning glancing header in the 73rd minute. He doubled his and his team's tally with a low finish deep in added time.

The result provides Newcastle and Bruce three valuable points after a run of five successive defeats, while the defeat is a setback to Everton's top four hopes.
