Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes Alvaro Morata's furious reaction to being substituted at Burnley had more to do with missed chances than mistreatment. The Blues were 2-1 winners at Turf Moor, keeping their own top-four prospects alive while hobbling the home side's prospects of beating Arsenal to sixth place. Victor Moses grabbed the winner, having already provided the cross which led to Kevin Long's first-half own-goal, with Ashley Barnes having earlier equalised thanks to a fortuitous deflection off his heel. But the form and frustrations of Morata also caught the eye, the £60 million (Dh309.9m) Spain international squandering a glorious one-on-one opportunity with the score at 1-0, then being hooked for Eden Hazard shortly after Chelsea reclaimed the lead. Morata was visibly upset as he left the pitch, kicking at the grass and hurling his shin pads to the floor after finally taking his place in the dugout. Conte felt the striker's emotions were directed inwards, with just one league goal since December, and was happy with Morata's wider contribution. "I think Alvaro must be angry because when you have a chance to score, you have to score, especially for a striker," said the Italian. "A lot of times when you score it changes your confidence. I think he was very angry with himself. "Tonight I saw a great team spirit. (Olivier) Giroud and Morata, I think they played a fantastic game with a great sacrifice without the ball. This is the first time that I've tried this solution with the two strikers; I had great responses and for sure in the future it could be a good option." ______________ Read more FA Cup: Huge opportunity for Maurico Pochettino's Tottenham to beat Manchester United at Wembley West Brom's imminent relegation one of the most inexplicable in Premier League era Watch: Chelsea's Antonio Conte laughs off wife's mid-news conference phone call Kyle Walker wants Manchester City to target place in the pantheon of great teams ______________ Conte also acknowledged his side were keen to keep fourth-placed Tottenham on their toes having trimmed the gap between the teams. "It won't be easy because we have a gap of five points with Tottenham, but we have to try," he said. "The only way to keep a hope for us is to try to get three points in every game," said the Chelsea boss. Clarets boss Sean Dyche saw a five-match winning run come to a close but they are still on target to play European football next term. Conte suggested prior to the game that managing Burnley was an easier task than leading Chelsea due to reduced expectations, but Dyche was happy to offer another perspective. "There's a lot of noise about Chelsea, you see the changes they made, the money that's been spent on them, they ain't bad I tell you," he said. "We've moved forward a long way but there's still a gap between clubs like ourselves and the top six. "That club aren't going to go out of business. Our club is not only winning as in winning games, it's winning for the whole community, people's jobs and stuff. But I've got no problem with his angle at all." Chelsea fielded two centre-forwards - Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud - in tandem for the first time in seven years and the duo linked well. Morata should have made it 2-0 in the second half when he sprinted clear of the Burnley defence but the Spain striker missed the target with only Pope to beat and was soon replaced by substitute Eden Hazard. The home team made Chelsea pay for that mistake when Ashley Barnes deflected Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s long-range drive beyond goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the 64th minute. Moses, however, settled Chelsea nerves in the 69th minute when he beat the unsighted Pope at his near post with a firm right-footed shot from 10 meters. Seventh-place Burnley missed the chance to leapfrog Arsenal in the standings but remains in a good position to qualify for the Europa League.
