Al Wasl 1 Baniyas 0
Al Wasl: Alfaro 88'

Emiliano Alfaro struck two minutes from time to give Al Wasl a 1-0 victory over Baniyas and a first win for new coach Guy Lacombe in only his second game in charge. The Frenchman's first game was a 0-0 draw against Al Jazira in the Pro League just two days after he signed for the Dubai club. It was Alfaro's fourth goal in as many games in the Etisalat Cup and took Wasl to the top of the Group B.

Dibba 3 Al Ahli 0
Dibba: Luiz Fernando 04', 39', Alex 51

Dibba Al Fujairah stunned the Etisalat Cup holders Al Ahli 3-0 to register their first win in 10 matches in all competitions. Luiz Fernando, the Brazilian midfielder, scored twice, in the fourth and 39th minutes, for a 2-0 lead at half time. Alex, his compatriot, rounded off the scoring with a third six minutes after the restart for the promoted club to leapfrog Ahli at the bottom of Group C. Ahli are now bottom of the group on one point from three games.

Kalba 2 Al Jazira 2
Kalba: Faraj 22', Obaid 79'; Al Jazira: Delgado 89', Qasim 90'

Al Jazira scored two late goals to salvage a 2-2 draw against Kalba. Saoud Faraj curled in a shot from inside the box to give the home side a 22nd minute lead and Saeed Obaid doubled their advantage when he scored on a counterattack 11 minutes from time. But Matias Delgado, the Argentine, reduced the deficit with a minute left and Abdulla Qasim completed the Jazira comeback when he scored the equaliser in added time.

Who was Alfred Nobel?

The Nobel Prize was created by wealthy Swedish chemist and entrepreneur Alfred Nobel.

  • In his will he dictated that the bulk of his estate should be used to fund "prizes to those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind".
  • Nobel is best known as the inventor of dynamite, but also wrote poetry and drama and could speak Russian, French, English and German by the age of 17. The five original prize categories reflect the interests closest to his heart.
  • Nobel died in 1896 but it took until 1901, following a legal battle over his will, before the first prizes were awarded.
