England call up Bairstow for Ballance ahead of third Ashes Test

Gary Ballance has paid the price for England’s misfiring top order and will be replaced by Jonny Bairstow in the team to face Australia in the third Ashes test at Edgbaston next week.

Ballance, who has a career average of nearly 48, has averaged 16.75 in his last eight innings against Australia and New Zealand. He made 23 and 14 in the 405-run defeat in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s, which leveled the series at 1-1, and was the only change in the squad on Tuesday.

Despite scoring more runs, 98, in the series so far than Adam Lyth, 50, or Ian Bell, 73, the latter two were spared.

Lyth will remain an opener with captain Alastair Cook, and Bell replaces Ballance at No 3 in the order for the Test on his home ground. Vice-captain Joe Root moves up to No 4, and Bairstow will come in at 5.

“Gary was naturally disappointed to miss out on this occasion, however we feel that he will benefit from some time in county cricket to rediscover his form,” England selector James Whitaker said in a statement.

Bairstow has played 14 Tests, the last six of which have been against Australia. He featured in the 2013 home Ashes win, and played in the last two Tests of the 2013-14 Ashes in Australia, scoring 10, 21, 18, 0 as England was swept aside.

He was not wanted by the Test side after that, but he was recalled to the limited-overs scene. He led England to a 3-2 series victory this year against New Zealand, single-handedly dismantling the tourists’ attack with an unbeaten 83 from 60 deliveries in the fifth ODI in Durham.

Meanwhile, he has flourished in the county championship, scoring 219 and 108 for Yorkshire in the last month.

Who is Mohammed Al Halbousi?

The new speaker of Iraq’s parliament Mohammed Al Halbousi is the youngest person ever to serve in the role.

The 37-year-old was born in Al Garmah in Anbar and studied civil engineering in Baghdad before going into business. His development company Al Hadeed undertook reconstruction contracts rebuilding parts of Fallujah’s infrastructure.

He entered parliament in 2014 and served as a member of the human rights and finance committees until 2017. In August last year he was appointed governor of Anbar, a role in which he has struggled to secure funding to provide services in the war-damaged province and to secure the withdrawal of Shia militias. He relinquished the post when he was sworn in as a member of parliament on September 3.

He is a member of the Al Hal Sunni-based political party and the Sunni-led Coalition of Iraqi Forces, which is Iraq’s largest Sunni alliance with 37 seats from the May 12 election.

He maintains good relations with former Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki’s State of Law Coaliton, Hadi Al Amiri’s Badr Organisation and Iranian officials.

Her most famous song

Aghadan Alqak (Would I Ever Find You Again)?

Would I ever find you again
You, the heaven of my love, my yearning and madness;
You, the kiss to my soul, my cheer and
sadness?
Would your lights ever break the night of my eyes again?
Would I ever find you again?
This world is volume and you're the notion,
This world is night and you're the lifetime,
This world is eyes and you're the vision,
This world is sky and you're the moon time,
Have mercy on the heart that belongs to you.
