Ryan ten Doeschate guides Netherlands into T20 World Cup Qualifier final

Ryan ten Doeschate put himself in position to pick up another winners’ medal at a tournament in the UAE after helping guide Netherlands into the final of the T20 World Cup Qualifier.

The veteran all-rounder played a fine cameo with the bat to set the platform for a 21-run win over Ireland in the first semi-final Stadium on Friday.

He made 43 not out from 25 balls to lift Netherlands to 158 for four from their 20 overs at the Dubai International Stadium.

The Irish chase was derailed by the excellence of the Netherlands’ left-arm spinners, as they were limited to 137 for nine from their 20.

Captain Pieter Seelaar picked up three for 17, and Roelof van der Merwe – who earlier shared in an unbroken stand worth 56 in just five overs with Ten Doeschate – took two for 19.

This time last year, Ten Doeschate was a key part of the Balkh Legends side who won the first Afghanistan Premier League in Sharjah.

Since then, the 39-year-old batsman has also added winners’ medals in the English County Championship and the T20 Blast.

He will get the chance to play for another title when the Dutch will play the final at 7.30pm on Saturday night.

They will face the winners of Friday’s second semi-final, between Papua New Guinea and Namibia.
