Mumbai Indians bounce back with 49-run win in Abu Dhabi

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS RATINGS: Shubman Gill – 4. Tied down by Boult. He got a crunching boundary away – then chipped up a catch to Pollard off the very next ball. Sportzpics for BCCI

Sunil Narine – 8. Characteristically cool amid the carnage in the field. One for 22, and a tidy run out, too. Could not get going in his role as pinch-hitter. Sportzpics for BCCI

Dinesh Karthik – 6. His 30 off 23 was too sedate for the situation, and he struggled to get the best from his bowlers in the field, too. Sportzpics for BCCI

Nitish Rana – 6. Too much was required of him, and he was unable to respond, making 24 from 18 balls. Sportzpics for BCCI

Eoin Morgan – 5. Made a smart gather to run out Suryakumar Yadav and end the seminal partnership of the match, but struggled with the bat on his first day out of quarantine. Sportzpics for BCCI

Andre Russell – 6. Bowled an excellent penultimate over of the Mumbai innings, but his team left him way too much to do with the bat. Sportzpics for BCCI

Nikhil Naik – 4. The game was gone by the time he came in, but he did not stick around for long when he did get his chance, holing out off Boult. Sportzpics for BCCI

Pat Cummins – 4. An inauspicious start for the $2.1m dollar man, with none for 49. Not a total nightmare, though, as he held a couple of catches and some free hitting with the bat. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kuldeep Yadav – 5. Looked pop-gun against Rohit Sharma's heavy artillery. Felt like he was lucky to get away with just 39 from his four overs. Sportzpics for BCCI

Sandeep Warrier – 5. Mortified to have gone for a wide and six at the end of an otherwise impeccable first over. It went less well from then on. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shivam Mavi – 7. A wicket maiden bowling to De Kock and Rohit is something to be prized. His end return of two for 32, including bowling the last, was not a bad return at all. Sportzpics for BCCI

MUMBAI INDIANS RATINGS: Rohit Sharma – 9. Cricket fans were made to wait because of the IPL postponement – but That Pull Shot is back. Looked to be flagging in the heat by the end. Sportzpics for BCCI

Quinton de Kock – 5. Skied his second ball and fell for just one run. Always has the chance of redeeming himself with the gloves. He did so with a great catch to get rid of Narine. Sportzpics for BCCI

Suryakumar Yadav – 8. Struck the ball crisply from the moment he arrived at the crease, to give Mumbai’s innings impetus. Will have been gutted to be run out stealing a second. Sportzpics for BCCI

Saurabh Tiwary – 7. Continued his good form from the opener, with 21 off 13 – even if some observers would have preferred Pollard or Hardik Pandya promoted above him. Sportzpics for BCCI

Hardik Pandya – 7. Fine hitting – even if Cummins was just feeding him. Bizarre dismissal as he somehow managed to hit his stumps while leaving the ball. Held a fine boundary catch. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kieron Pollard – 7. No chance to mark his 150th appearance for Mumbai with anything spectacular, but provided a little late-overs oomph. Sportzpics for BCCI

Krunal Pandya – 6. The left-arm spinner did not have much to do to earn his match fee. Bowled one over, for 10 runs. Sportzpics for BCCI

James Pattinson – 7. Two for 25 off his four overs, and really set the tone for his side by the way he threw himself around trying to field balls of his bowling. Sportzpics for BCCI

Rahul Chahar – 7. A wicket off the last ball of the match was a neat way to finish another decent outing for the leg-spinner. Sportzpics for BCCI

Trent Boult – 7. Started with a maiden. Ended with two for 30, which went a long way to snuffing out Kolkata's run-chase. Sportzpics for BCCI

Jasprit Bumrah – 7. Had his figures destroyed by the Cummins-inspired carnage of his last over, which went for 27, but he had done the important bit already. Sportzpics for BCCI

Captain Rohit Sharma hit a superb 80 to help Mumbai Indians defeat Kolkata Knight Riders and taste success in the UAE for the first time in seven attempts across two IPL editions.

Mumbai lost five matches in the 2014 season and were defeated in the opener this year by Chennai Super Kings.

But that run ended on Wednesday. Sharma put on a second-wicket stand of 90 with Suryakumar Yadav, who made 47, to help Mumbai post 195-5 in Abu Dhabi.

Mumbai bowlers Trent Boult, James Pattinson, Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar took two wickets each to restrict Kolkata to 146-9.
