The release of four hostages is scheduled for January 25 as part of the ceasefire agreement that began on Sunday when three Israeli hostages were released by Hamas before Israel freed 90 Palestinian detainees.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance officially took office on Monday at an indoor inauguration ceremony at the Capitol in Washington.
Leaders from around the world congratulated President Trump. Middle East leaders including UAE President Sheikh Mohamed wished Mr Trump and his administration well.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also sent his congratulations, citing “groundbreaking moments” like the Abraham Accords in Mr Trump's first presidency.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas sent a message to Mr Trump which read: “We stand ready to work with you to achieve peace during your tenure, guided by the two-state solution based on international legitimacy.”
Speaking from the Oval Office as he signed several executive orders, just hours after his inauguration, President Trump said he was not confident that all three phases of the ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas would be implemented.
