The Rio Olympics ended with a spectacular carnival-inspired closing ceremony that celebrated Brazil’s arts and was held in a wet Maracana.
But it was the vegetables that seemed to get a whole lot of attention as dancers wore an assortment of bright, vegetable-shaped costumes – even the broccoli couldn’t stop dancing. This was a reminder to everyone to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
It was a great finale that embodied the spirit of Rio, even though some Twitter users seemed to be shocked by those outrageous costumes.
One could not apparently believe his eyes: “Is it just me or are others also seeing the same thing?”
One of the biggest cheers of the night came when Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe appeared dressed as computer game character Super Mario, rising out of a huge green pipe in the stadium. Such an appearance seemed to add zeal to the spirit of celebration, with one Twitter user commenting: “When the Japanese prime minister comes dressed as Super Mario, we know #Tokyo2020 is going to be epic!”
Most users agreed that the Super Mario moment won everything.
