Our leaders have achieved the impossible

  • English
  • Arabic

Never have I seen leaders so humble and wise (UAE leaders meet to discuss national interests, June 27). They have proven that all humanity can live together. The world can learn so much from them. What they have achieved for their country in a short span of time is nothing short of a miracle. They have made sure that the country stays safe and sound. No word for me to praise them. May Allah bless them, their families their people and the UAE.

Shocking video of a teenager

I was shocked to watch the video of Rashed Belhasa who has a Dh110,188 sports shoe collection. These youngsters are so lucky while in Africa children often walk to school without any shoes. Maybe someone should teach this little boy a lesson in excess and take him to Africa for a life lesson without any kicks.

Carla Botha, US

The boy’s parents should teach him to give to the less privileged rather than allowing him to show off his luxury shoes. How many thanks and prayers would he get if he donated the money to charity in other countries? I request parents to teach their children to give rather than to receive. Children learn from their parents. I see no sense in buying so many shoes.

Children grow habits at home

In reference to your editorial How to change unhealthy habits (June 23), it starts at home with parents. If children see parents lying around and not exercising and eating unhealthy food, what do you expect the children to do? Parents need to be living examples, who are active, eat right and get good amounts of sleep.

Concern over health cover

It's great to see an increase in preventive health care (Demand for preventive care on the increase, June 18).

Surely it’s about time health insurance companies included reimbursement of holistic/ alternative medications/ supplements/ tests and treatments. Why should we have to pay for health insurance that only covers allopathic treatment?

Tablet addiction begins at school

What to do if schools are teaching through tablets (How to get kids to turn off the table, June 22)? My children have to use tablets to write all their tests and do homework.

As a result they are glued to the gadget all the time.

How about schools discouraging children to use them – at least those under 8?

Britons should focus on unity

For years the people in the UK fought for a democratic society and this is what they have (What next for Britain after Brexit vote?, June 26). A vote was done and people who came up with excuses as to why they didn't vote, well that's up to them. As with any democratic decisions, you win some and you lose some. What needs to happen now is that the people of Britain, no matter which side they opted for, need to pool together and work towards unifying the UK and not focus on who voted to leave and who voted to remain. Emphasising differences is what leads to cultural conflicts, prejudice and racial profiling. Believe it or not, we have more in common with others than you might think.
