Eid Al Adha – one of the most important events on the calendar – is being celebrated by millions of people across this country. The occasion is significant because it reflects the spirit of unity, brotherhood, love, compassion and sacrifice.

What is remarkable about this event is that friends and family members – even those who have been estranged – take great effort to come together under one roof. Keeping thistrue spirit of Eid in mind, Rulers across the Emirates have granted early release to more than 1,000 prisoners. Many have had their debts paid so they can get on with their lives.

However, Eid celebrations this year will be tempered by the recent deaths of Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed and the Emirati servicemen in Yemen. As we mark this special holiday, we pause to appreciate what we have thanks to the sacrifice of others, and remind ourselves that there are causes much bigger than our own.
