A boy has died after drowning in floodwater in Sharjah.
The emirate's police force said the incident was reported at 7.05pm on Wednesday. Emergency response teams were immediately sent to the scene, but the boy later died in hospital.
Sharjah Police did not reveal any further details, but offered condolences to the child's family.
“Rainwater pools and wadis pose significant risks due to their uneven and unpredictable depths, as well as the presence of unstable muddy surfaces that can lead to sudden slips,” the force said in a statement.
It urged parents to ensure their children do not swim in floodwater. “It is important to educate children about potential hazards, particularly following heavy rainfall,” the statement added.
Residents are urged to report any behaviour that might endanger children by calling 901 for non-emergencies or 999 in urgent situations.
Sharjah was one of the worst-hit emirates in last week's major storm. Earlier this week, Sharjah Municipality was still clearing floodwater from main roads and key areas.
