The UAE has detained Abdul Rahman Al Qaradawi after seeking his extradition from Lebanon, state news agency Wam reported on Friday.
Mr Al Qaradawi faces charges of "engaging in activities that aim to stir and undermine public security", Wam said.
It added that the UAE "unequivocally reiterates its firm stance against anyone who targets its security and stability and affirms that it will relentlessly pursue any individual who poses a threat to national security and take all necessary legal measures".
Mr Al Qaradawi is the son of the late Yusuf Al Qaradawi, considered the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. He died in 2022.
The arrest comes after he made critical comments of authorities in a video posted online, Reuters reported. An extradition request was submitted by the UAE to Lebanon in “accordance with the principle of reciprocity and the relevant domestic laws and regulations of both countries”, Wam said.
