• Dubai, May 3 (WAM) - The Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) has affirmed that the successes achieved by the Al Gaffal Long Distance Heritage Race, dedicated to local 60-foot dhows, in each edition reinforce the club's ambitions to elevate the heritage event to a world-class status. The 34th edition of the race, organized by the Dubai International Marine Club, was held yesterday, extending from Sir Bu Nair Island to the shores of Dubai. The first place was won by the dhow "Zilzal 25", owned by His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and skippered by Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi. A total of 118 dhows participated in the race, which sailed yesterday morning for a distance of more than 50 nautical miles, in a scene that embodied the Emirati people's celebration of their diving heritage and the past of their forefathers.
