Jordan's ancient city of Petra used to attract thousands of tourists a day. Now, in the second year of the Covid-19 pandemic, only a handful of tourists are traveling to explore the world-famous Nabataean caravan-city. For the local donkey riders, tour guides, hotel workers, and souvenir sellers, whose livelihoods are deeply tied to the tourism industry, the impact has been devastating. And while Jordan's tourism sector is beginning to open up, the people of Petra continue to face an uphill battle to revive their businesses.
