Ahead of International Nike Air Max Day on March 26, Nike has initiated a campaign to come up with a new Air Max design concept. The athletic brand invited 12 creatives, whom it is deeming to be “revolutionairs,” from around the world to the Nike Headquarters in Oregon, United States. Each participant was given the opportunity to design a new Air Max shoe, to be presented at the online Vote Forward project on Nike’s website. The winning designer’s vision will come to life as a wearable Nike Air Max shoe.
Turkish designer Bunyamin Aydin, creative director of Les Benjamins, was the first and only designer to be selected from the Middle East. Known for producing streetwear inspired by cultural heritage mixed with contemporary influences, Aydin often combines textures with digital prints. His concept for the next Nike Air Max is inspired by the Air Max 97 design, but features patterns reminiscent of Turkish rugs. His design is primarily monochrome, with a deep burgundy touch, and features silver pony hair and a translucent sole.
